I'm having a few miscellaneous problems I need an answer to: (1) I disconnected the CN3 jack on a floppy drive so that a user can't eject the disk under any circumstances. It works, but there seems to be a rather large problem: if the user actually does try to eject/trash the disk (which fails), and then does a RESTART (via the MENU option or programmers switch), the Mac boots REAL SLOW. You see the happy face for about 20 seconds, then the "Welcome to Macintosh" message (without the Mac icon) for about 20 seconds, then the "Welcome to Macintosh" message (with the Mac icon for several minutes, etc. It works, but it's EXTREMELY slow. A powerdown, then power-up, clears the problem. What's causing the boot from the floppy to be so slow when a RESTART is done after the user tries (and fails) to do the disk eject? (2) Is there a way to disable the user's ability to check the "mount- upon-startup" in AppleShare? We're getting users mounting up-teen servers upon booting, thus making it difficult for people who really need to get to the servers to connect. (3) Is there a way to disable the user's ability to set the Ram Cache setting in the PRAM? We're getting users setting it up really high, and the next user not being able to do anything since there's no memory available. Regards, Darryl Marsee Syracuse University
