[comp.protocols.appletalk] Macintosh to NFS server

oberst@phoenix.Princeton.EDU (Daniel J. Oberst) (10/14/89)

It's a round-about kluge, but we have been NFS-mounting CMS files on
several of our CAP (Columbia AppleTalk Package) unix systems so that
Macs can access the CMS files via AppleShare. One application,
"HyperPNN" is a Hypercard stack that accesses on-line information,
weather, library schedules, etc. that are all stored on the mainframe.
We've also tried using a stack (Tapestry) developed here that helps
navigate through downloaded files from BIX that are centrally stored on
the mainframe. If Apple ever releases MacNFS then you could go directly
to the CMS files, but for now, we've just been using CAP/AUFS and an NFS
link to the IBM file system.
