[comp.protocols.appletalk] Microsoft Mail 2.0

ziff@zippy.eecs.umich.edu (Brian Moore) (10/17/89)

Ok Netland, I need some opinions about Microsoft Mail 2.0. Does it work?
How well does it work? What does it work on? What doesn't it work on?
You know, the usual stuff. We are running our mail system on a SUN4 using a
ethernet LAN and Kinetic Fastpath4 boxes.

                                                Thanks a bunch,
                                                      Brian Moore

Well, we're using it here. I'm whelmed. We're still running a (late) beta
version, it works pretty well, but the feature set and operations are
kludgey. If I were just setting up an e-mail network, I'd go with Quickmail
instead (as is various other parts of Apple).

It's not a bad product. It works. It's a good, safe business decision type
piece of software. Quickmail has a lot more functionality and better (& more
intuitive) bells and whistles.

Anyone who thinks that the argument over {sci, rec}.fishies is about
group names doesn't understand the system.

Our site is running MS Mail 2.0. The Mail Server is on a Mac II on
an AppleTalk net behind a Kinetics FP4. My Mac II has an EtherPort II
card. I can originate MS Mail, but when I try to read incoming mail
off the server, my Mac goes catatonic and I have to do a hard reboot.
No one seems to know what's wrong. I use QuickMail, and it works fine.
In fact I can use QuickMail to exchange E-Mail with the Internet.
