We have a newly installed FPS4 that seems to be crashing on a regular basis while tops is running on the appletalk side. We are running kip/cap/aufs/lwsrv - all seems to function fine until tops is turned on then the LED's on the front of the box get busy and it hangs. Also I can't get the fps4 to autoboot from our atalkad - you have to use the fast path manager to reload and restart each each time.... Help appreciated. hurf -- Hurf Sheldon Network: hurf@ionvax.tn.cornell.edu Lab of Plasma Studies Bitnet: hurf@CRNLION 369 Upson Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. 14853 ph:607 255 7267 "And the walls came tumbling down"

When somebody used TOPS on an EtherTalk-connected Mac, the FPS4 (running
K-Star) didn't crash but lost lots of packets. Most especially PINGs for the
CAP server. :-(
There seems to be something very strange going on.
My advice: Drag TOPS to the trashcan and use something better...

No problems with this one here.
The trick seems to be just to set the IP address to boot from and leave
about everything else on its default settings.

Hopefully this does.

I received a note telling me the FPS4 may suffer from a loose connection in the box - we opened it, reseated the connections (2 or 3) and closed it - has worked fine, TOPS included, since. hurf BTW: PopMail works - it's neat. hurf -- Hurf Sheldon Network: hurf@ionvax.tn.cornell.edu Lab of Plasma Studies Bitnet: hurf@CRNLION 369 Upson Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. 14853 ph:607 255 7267 "And the walls came tumbling down"
