I'm trying to use CAP through the GatorBox. Actually, we have two GatorBoxes, one with and one without GatorShare. Our configuration is like this: local talk ----------------+------------------- Zone: "ECCF Mac Lab" | GatorBox without GatorShare | ethernet ======+===========+===+=========+====== Zone: "Sloan Ethernet" | | | GatorBox Mac II DS 3100 with with with Zone: "LensKIP" GatorShare AU/X Ultrix | (DOLLAR) (GUILDER) | local talk ----+-------------------------------- Zone: "E53 3rd Floor" The GatorBox with GatorShare has KIP turned on; the one without has KIP turned off. I've compiled CAP for two machines, one a Mac II running AU/X (DOLLAR) and the other a DecStation 3100 running (somewhat hacked) Ultrix (GUILDER). On DOLLAR everything works fine (see the transcript below). On GUILDER, getzones works and atlook works through the GatorBox without GatorShare but not through the one with GatorShare. (That is, 'atlook "ECCF Mac Lab"' returns a list of things and 'atlook "E53 3rd Floor"' returns nothing.) Actually, the results aren't identical even for the GatorBox without GatorShare; on DOLLAR, atlook lists 23 items, on GUILDER, only 9. I've tried reconfiguring the second GatorBox to be as close as possible to the first and changing the broadcast addresses of all machines to the same thing (18.86.0.0) without making much difference. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Sounds like you need to define BYTESWAPPED and recompile everything on your 3100. I had the same problem when I brought CAP up on my 3100, with it only seeing some things in a zone. It appears that even though a MIPS machine is usually big endian, DEC has configured it to be little endian, like the rest of the VAXs. The CAP Configuration script doesn't know this. I recompiled with the BYTESWAPPED set and it now works. The fact that it half works without it really masked the problem (I thought if I got the BYTESWAPPED wrong it would simply not work). Thank you Edward Moy and Lawrence Anthony. Kevin
