[comp.protocols.appletalk] Another QuickMail question

ee299bw@sdcc6.ucsd.edu (Help On The Way) (02/10/90)

We recently bought Quickmail 2.01 and were hoping to interface it
with the Unix mail that we use. It turns out that most of the
interfaces involve an actual hardware intraface with the unix system
in question.

Most of the QuickMail users at our site also have Unix accounts on a
vax that we dial into via modem. As they are generally not unix
literate, but otherwise good people -:) I would like to be able to
encapsulate their Unix e-mail accounts into quickMail so that they
can send messages from quickmail, and the mail center will dial up
the vax, go into their account and mail the message for them,
hopefully as transparently as possible.

Is there anyone out tthere who has constructed a QuickMail script to
do anything similar to this?

AdvTHANKSance,

Dave

You may want to check out Que, "QuickMail~UNIX Exchange," which is
available on sumex (36.44.0.6): "/info-mac/comm/que.hqx". Here is a
little blerb from the Installation file:

"Que is a simple system for transferring mail between QuickMail and a
UNIX host. It works with either the Telecommunications or QM-Serial
bridge. We plan to support a direct network connection in the future."

"Que was developed and tested with a Sun4 under SunOS 4.0. We expect it
to be fairly portable. Please tell us about your installation
experiences so that other may benefit."

"Que is free! It's our way of saying thanks to all the people who have
developed the free software we use."

Hope this helps!

Another way to link QuickMail to UNIX is through UMCP\QM. This
is a QuickMail to UNIX(r) UUCP gateway that runs on the QuickMail
Server as part of the QM Administrator program. UMCP\QM is now
in beta test and should be shipping in mid March. Cost ~$99.00.
It handles binary file transfers and QM Enclosures go to UNIX ans
UUEncoded Mail.
