We are trying to integrate Macs into a network consisting mostly of SUNs. We would like to have the Macs print to Postscript printers attached to the SUNs. All of our Macs are directly on the Ethernet. We do not currently have a Kinetics or similar box, and we would rather not have to purchase one. We have been successful in getting CAP (aufs) and UAB to run on a SUN to provide an Appleshare file server for the Macs. As far as I can tell, CAP will allow UNIX hosts to print to Apple printers on a localtalk network, but will not allow Macs to print to UNIX printers. Is there any software available to do this, or will we have to put our printers on a localtalk network in order to allow the Macs to print to them? If we need to have the printers on localtalk, do we need a Kinetics-type box to allow UNIX hosts to print to them, or can we run some software on a Mac which can hand off CAP/UAB packets to a locally attached printer? Any information would be appreciated.
