We are experiencing a problem in using Telnet on 1M macintoshes. We have several groups of LocalTalk-connected Macintoshes, connected to an EtherNet backbone with Kinetics Fastpath boxes and Cayman Gatorboxes. This past Monday, the 1M Macintoshes could no longer successfully use NCSA Telnet to connect to the local Unix machines. There are no problems on Macintoshes with more memory. Upon using the Fastpath Manager on the 1 Meg Macs, I discovered that they could not even see the Fastpath box, while Macs in their daisy-chain could use that same box just fine. This is a complete mystery to us, at this point; there are a couple of things we're thinking of trying, but they are basically shots in the dark. Do these symptoms ring any bells for anyone. BTW, we have considered the possibility of a change to the network (figure the problem is not in the software per se, since Telnet disks that worked fine prior to the problem don't now under the described circumstances); our hardware folk have declared this highly unlikely, however. I'm keeping an open mind; any and all suggestion will be considered and appreciated. -- R David Francis francis@cis.ohio-state.edu
