Is there a document that describes Appletalk over ethernet? I want to examine the routing packets on the ethernet but I'm not sure how to decode the packet. Phil Green Syracuse University pmgreen@rodan.acs.syr.edu

The document you want is titled "EtherTalk and Alternate AppleTalk Connections Reference" available from APDA for $20. The order number is M7056. You may also want "AppleTalk Phase 2 Protocol Specification: An Addendum to Inside AppleTalk" and "Inside AppleTalk". ------------------------------- Robert Dominy NASA Goddard Space Flight Center

I just wanted to add that while the above-mentioned document will give you the specs for how an AppleTalk packet is encapsulated within an Ethernet packet, the book "Inside AppleTalk" (Addison-Wesley, 1989) actually give the formats for the RTMP (Routing Table Maintenance Protocol) packets that Phil is actually interested in. "Inside AppleTalk" also includes the AppleTalk-to- Ethernet information, but not the details on programming the EtherTalk interface given in the "EtherTalk...Reference". Hope this helps!
