Could someone please tell me where one can find out more about the AppleTalk-over-async-line protocol "Async AppleTalk"? (e.g. specifications, implementations, etc.) Thank you very much for your time. ...Sam -- Samuel Lam {alberta,watmath,uw-beaver,cs.ubc.ca}!ubc-cs!van-bc!skl

DOS DIAL-IN runs the standard Atalk driver from Apple over Async lines (I say 'standard' but obviously in the case of Asynch, that doesn't mean much). You can do anything you want on a remote PC as you could by having a Localtalk board in your PC. The product requires a Shiva Telebridge on the Appletalk network you are dialing into. ( I don't think the Netmodem supports this anymore, although I seem to recall that it used to!). Another product is DOS CONNECT, also from shiva. It gives you access to a Shiva Netmodem from a PC attached to the network. You could even DIAL OUT of the network while DIALED INTO the network. You simply assign a COMx: port on your PC to the Netmodem.
