SU-Mac/IP 4.0 now available
---------------------------

Stanford University Networking Systems announces the release of
Version 4.0 of our communication software package for Apple Macintosh
computers, SU-Mac/IP.

Four programs are distributed with this new version:

o Mac/IP, providing VT100 terminal emulation (Telnet), file transfers
(FTP), and information on computers and people (Whois and Finger).
Version 4.0 enhancements include online help with each menu item and
button, a separate preferences file for each user, choice of screen
size and font size, unlimited session profiles, and many other
improvements.

o tn3270, an IBM 3270 terminal emulation package from Brown
University. (New with 4.0.)

o Mac/MH, a Macintosh mail handler. Improvements include the addition
of BinHex and UnBinHex to the File menu, and a separate configuration
for each user.

o SU-lpr, a facility for sending text files for printing to UNIX lpd
servers, incorporated as a desk accessory. (New with 4.0.)

Three utilities are also included in SU-Mac/IP 4.0:

o ClipPrint, a desk accessory for printing text and pictures that have
been copied onto the Clipboard. (New with 4.0.)

o MockWrite and MockPrinter, desk accessories for creating, editing,
and printing Macintosh text files.

o fingerpop.tar, a UNIX tar file for administrators outside Stanford
to add to the MH 6.6 package so that Finger will return information
on POP server users.

Version 4.0 uses Apple Computer's TCP/IP driver for the Macintosh,
MacTCP, providing several additional enhancements for users and
administrators. MacTCP allows multiple IP-based applications to run
simultaneously, and supports various local network media. MacTCP
version 1.01 is included with the SU-Mac/IP distribution.

The SU-Mac/IP package contains two software disks, and paper copies of
the "User's Manual," the "Administrator's Manual," the "Quick
Reference Guide," and the "tn3270 Reference Guide."

The package is licensed ONLY to degree-granting institutions of higher
education, for a charge of $150. Additional copies of the manuals are
available for $2 each. The license permits unlimited copying of all
software and manuals within the licensing institution. Licensees of
previous versions of SU-Mac/IP must request the new version, and pay
the license fee (sorry).

To request a license for SU-Mac/IP 4.0, send electronic mail to
"macip@jessica.stanford.edu", or telephone Networking Systems at
