[comp.protocols.appletalk] CAP woes, revisited...

dd@ariel.unm.edu (dd) (04/10/90)

Upon further investigation, I seem to have atalkad working OK. The
files atalk.local and atalkatab seem to generate working
configurations for my Kinetics box, and I can get to my potential
Aufs host no problem, from either EtherTalk, or from LocalTalks
behind other KFPS4s. So that much of the configuration seems
healthy.

I have determined that my packets are reaching the server by
cranking up the debugging level on ATIS, and looking at the
transactions that it records. The problem I have now has to do with
servers registering with ATIS - it's not working. ATIS sees the
lookup:

atis: Mon Apr 9 14:41:50 1990 Got nbp 1 lkup from net 20.1, node 135, skt 2

atis: Mon Apr 9 14:41:50 1990 Looking for entities to answer a lookup with
	carina Aufs:AFPServer@ATiIP

so far so good! I assume that it is a healthy part of the
registration process to first determine if you are a duplicate of
another service. Next entry:

atis: Mon Apr 9 14:41:50 1990 look: start index 0 beyond range of table

again, good, I assume. There should be no other service by that
name on that network at the time I am starting up. But after
repeating this transaction 4 times, Aufs gives up on registering the
name:

22398* 14:42:02 04/09/90 SrvrRegister for carina Aufs failed...

and the Aufs process terminates. I have hunted through some of the
code (and will continue to do so), but I sure would appreciate a
word from the wise: what have I done wrong? I should point out
that snitch, and all other servers are doing exactly the same
thing:-{.

Thanks!
