Subject: Time: 3:54 PM OFFICE MEMO netnews reader problem Date: 4/6/90 Has someone been able to get the netnews reader stack to work through a Fastpath? I have a Mac II, 8MB RAM, System/MultiFinder release 6.0.5 (I tried with 6.0.4 first), HyperCard 1.2.5 (allocated 1500kB; I used 1.2.2 first and thought updating to 1.2.5 might help, but it didn't), netnews reader stack 1.2.1, MacTCP 1.0. I am connected through a Fastpath 4, ROM v.4.1, K*Star 7.0, which also assigns me my dynamic IP address (I used a Fatpath 2U with ROM 4.4, and K*Star 7.0U first, but swapping the 4 for it didn't help either). My NNTP server is utkcs2.cs.utk.edu [128.169.201.2]. Using TCP/Connect (MacTCP version), I can get telnet and FTP logins from this host (I don't have an account, though), so I know my network connections work. I also have no problem using the HyperFTP stack, so I know everything on my machine should be set up correctly. My colleague whose Mac is directly connected to the same Ethernet as my Fastpath and who uses the same stack has no problems. I even downloaded a new copy of the stack from apple.apple.com -- no luck. Here is what happens when I click the "Connect to Server" button. The animated status window appears and the bridge is built. Then the bits appear to stream across the bridge. After a short while I get "Server is not responding," even though my colleague is using it at the same time or just logged off, or logs on successfully the next moment. When I click the OK button, I get "Can't understand rollUpBridge," and after I click Cancel in this dialog, the status window is dead, can't even click the Cancel button. So I have to quit or open the stack again from the file menu. Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong here? Any kind of hint would be greatly appreciated. Wolfgang N.
