[comp.protocols.appletalk] Help bringing up CAP on DEC 3100 with GatorBox

matt@ils.nwu.edu (Matt Larson) (04/12/90)

I am having trouble getting CAP running. If some kind soul could tell
me what we are doing wrong, it would be very helpful.

We are running CAP on a DECstation 3100, Ultrix 2.0, connected to a
GatorBox. Has anyone brought up CAP with this hardware configuration?
From the GatorBox documentation it appears that atalkdad is not
supported in my release of the GatorKeeper software. (1.4) Am I
correct in assuming that I don't need atalkdad running? Or its
configuration files present for CAP?

For those really interested, I include our configuration files and
GatorBox setup.

/etc/atalk.local on the DECstation:
# mynet mynode myzone
105.100 5 capzone
# bridgenet bridgenode bridgeIP
105.100 70 129.105.100.70

The GatorBox manuals explain every field except `mynode.' I have
RTFM'd, but cannot find a satisfactory explanation. The CAP
documentation just points me to the documentation for atalkad.
What is this field?

The IP address of the GatorBox is 129.105.100.70.

Clicking on the `AppleTalk Routing' configuration in GatorKeeper, the
screen reads:

LocalTalk Network: Number 1
                   Zone Name LocalTalk

EtherTalk Network: Number 2
                   Zone Name EtherTalk

Clicking on `KIP Options...' produces:

KIP Support is on.

KIP AppleTalk Network Number: 26980
KIP AppleTalk Node Number: 70
KIP AppleTalk Zone Name: capzone
KIP IP Network Number: 129.105.100.0

Incidentally, the IP address of the DECstation is 129.105.100.152.

When I run atlook on the DEC, I get nothing, not even the IPADDRESS
entry showing that CAP sees the GatorBox. It's like we don't even
have an AppleTalk network.

Any information or suggestions that you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
