I thought that the following question about using a Cayman Gator Box and a Shiva Netbridge together might be of general interest. [The question was asked of Cayman who gave permission to post the reply] <MSM> -------------------------------------------------- THE QUESTION: Q> Date: Tue, 22 May 90 13:25:15 PDT Q> To: support@cayman.com Q> From: Michael S. GatorMail-Q installed on an Q> Appleshare server (located on Zone B) does not seem to be able to Q> communicate with the SUN Mailhost (and the mailhost can't get a Q> response from ping of the MAC server). Q> Q> It would appear that the Shiva Netbridge is not passing the packets Q> which are needed by the Gatorbox between the Appletalk zones. Q> Q> Do you have any suggestions as to how we can clear up this problem? Q> Q> Thank You! A> A> First, macintoshes on zone B (opposite side of NetBridge) need to change a A> line in the config.tel file for telnet. The line that reads '#zone="Zone"' A> should be uncommented and the zone A should be put into the right hand side A> of this equation. This tells telnet to look in that zone for its gateway to A> the ethernet. A> A> The second problem is more a shortcoming of the MacIP protocol itself. The A> protocol does not provide a way for a manually assigned address to be A> registered in a zone other than the one that the GatorBox/FastPath is in. A> This will work for dynamic addresses (as in the above case), but since A> GatorMail should run with the same IP address, you should probably move the A> Mail server to zone A.
