We've got a 200-net AppleTalk internet spanning 3 countries and 2 continents, comprised exclusively of cisco routers and Kinetics FastPaths, all speaking vanilla, IP and EtherTalk Phase 1 protocols. We're very happy with the cisco gateways. No box is perfect, but the cisco has very good debugging & test features and their support has been excellent. > There are some surprises along the way, for instance that FastPath > Manager only works in its own Zone. As you no doubt discovered, this has nothing to do with the cisco and every thing to do with the protocol which the FastPath manager speaks. (I'll give you a hint: it's not IP and it's not AppleTalk. Here's my vote that Shiva does the Right thing and supports FastPath management via IP.) > Generally this seems to be an improvement as packets are somewhat > restricted in terms of what FastPaths they visit on their way to > their eventual destination. Amen. You cannot build a large network with bridges. [but ahem, I really would like ATP2 support on cisco's soon... :^) ] best regards, ben schmidt Information Technology, Bell-Northern Research bschmidt@bnr.ca
