[comp.protocols.appletalk] Apppletalk/Laserwriters/Dos

paulr@pnet51.orb.mn.org (Paul Raulerson) (08/01/90)

Yeah- if you have a Sun sitting out there, you can hang a Laserwriter off of
it, bring up TOPS on the Dos, Mac, and Sun, and your in business. It will
all work. Conversely, you can use a PC as a "bridge", albeit not a very smart
one between Appletalk and Ethernets.

It seems clumsy compared to an all TCP/IP based network, butit works.
Heck- you can can even use PC-NFS and TOPS to mount a UNIX disk on a
Mac that way, as well as sharing printers.

Be prepared to struggle a bit with it though.

Or you can take the easy way out, order AppleSharePC from Apple(
or a distributor) for the PC's, KAshare for the Mac's-> UNIX,
and KSpool from mtxinu. KSPool lets the Mac's, PC's, and Sun's
share the same disks.

wasn't that easy
