Many users on our network complaint about their telnet session closed by the remote host without any warning. After many days of sniffing the network with the sniffer, we found that they are some ICMP message that might by the cause of these problem. Said system A has a telnet session window open to system B. System A and B could be running Ultrix v3.0 or IBM RT running BSD 4.3 or SunOS 3.5. There are few MacOS systems with a Dove SCSI Ethernet device that run MacTCP v1.1. The Mac System C some time send out an ICMP message with "Destination unreachable, Host unreachable" to system A. The ICMP message from C tell A that host B is unreachable. When this happen, system just close the telnet connection to system B without any warning. The question is why system C send out this kind of ICMP message to A? It is not his business at all. Other mac on the network with other Ethernet card and MacTCP does not do that Only Mac with Dove SCSI Ethernet card do. Is any one seen this kind of ICMP message before?
