We run an AlisaShare file server as well as a number of AppleShare-dedicated Macs. AlisaShare comes with a couple of alternative "User Access Methods" (UAMs) that the AppleShare client software will use, if the server will support them. These particular ones support full 31-character VAX/VMS passwords. All you need to do is put the UAM files in a folder called "AppleShare Folder" in your System Folder--no need to restart your machine, even. The next time you select AppleShare in the Chooser and log onto a server, the login sequence brings up an extra modal dialog, where you get to specify your choice of UAM, from the ones that the server supports. What this means is that any limitations on password length are really a result of the server implementation, and it doesn't need a revamping of the AppleTalk Filing Protocol to fix this--the hooks are already there. Question: what alternative UAMs does CAP support?
