[comp.protocols.appletalk] Hayes Interbridge

I just saw a Hayes Interbridge sans power supply, manual, and software
at a surplus electronics store. I don't know if it works or not, and
I'm not exactly sure what its capabilites are. I assume it bridges
two LocalTalk networks together, but can anyone elaborate? What are
the two serial ports in the back for (I mean the ones besides the
DB9 LocalTalk ports)?

Would it take much to get this thing running? Is it worth it?

IMHO, no. We've had suspicious AppleTalk router interoperability problems with earlier versions of these and the support was lamentable. I wouldn't touch them unless you had the latest firmware from Hayes.

We have been using Hayes Interbridges for some time now. They only
support Phase I. Under normal Phase I traffic they work just fine. Now
that we are getting more products that require Phase II we are
experiencing problems. We sent away for the upgrade to make the
Interbridges support Phase II, but Hayes is telling us that they have a
two month backlog (coupled with internal beaurocracy it translates into a
four month wait). Generally, I have no problem with Hayes' products, but
their customer service is lousy. I agree with the advice given earlier.
If the Interbridge isn't the lastest version, then don't buy it.
