I would like to get CAP to run on a NeXT machine and use EtherTalk without laundering the packets through KIP. We have a number of NeXT machines [hey, this wasn't my idea!!] as well as Macs and would like to work with very large files (usually sound files) on both types of machines. Needless to say, going through an additional gateway on directly connected machines isn't giving for very good performance. Has anyone made any progress on CAP in the NeXT world? In particular, does there exist a version which uses a packet filter type of mechanism so as to avoid using the UAB hack? Is either method even possible? (Remember, no kernel sources on NeXT; probably not even kernel object files.) What can be done to get plausible efficiency given hardware and O/S throughput? If you wish, you can reply directly and i will summarize for the net. We have CAP 5.0 (with obvious fixes) running, as well as KIP0688 on a KFPS-2, and i am a serious network hacker (albeit not very current on UN*X software). -- Tovar P.S. Has anyone managed to compile a runnable KIP on a NeXT?
