I am involved in a project involving a MIPS 2030 Workstation (I think; it's running RISC/os 4.10) and a PhoneNet network. We have acquired a GatorBox for testing purposes, and while it seems like the right way to go, there are some problems. MacTCP has been succesfully installed on several Macs, NCSA Telnet is working reliably, and so is ftp. GatorShare, however, is not. The name of the MIPS appears in the Chooser's list of file servers, but if I select it and attempt to connect, a dialog box appears telling me "Unknown user or log on is disabled..." which is not the case as far as I can tell. Other file servers (AppleShare & Novell) come up without a problem. I have added entries to the /etc/exports corresponding to the file systems I want to mount, and the GatorShare is configured to use /etc/passwd, not yellow pages. We would also like to get the AppleTalk laserwriters to print Unix files directly, instead of using ftp and MacWrite, but the chapter in the GatorBox manual describing print services is empty. We have CAP v5.0, but can't even get it to compile, and the documentation mentions nothing about MIPS computers. If anyone has any suggestions regarding these problems, please send e-mail, or post here if it seems appropriate. -- Steve Wart userschh@mts.ucs.ualberta.ca (403) 492-2169 3-23 Faculty of Business Building University of Alberta, Canada T6G 2H1

It may be a little late for you, but did you consider Ushare for your MIPS box? It provides all the services you want, and then some. I believe the same company has a localtalk card for the MIPS box. The total solution may well be cheaper than the Gatorbox. I haven't used Ushare but I've heard reasonably good things about it. You can contact the manufacturer, IPT, at (818) 347-7791.
