The Laboratory for AI Research
Fairchild Research Center
Palo Alto, California
... is searching for star-quality Computer Science and AI
talent. We are building a premier research laboratory to create the
key concepts and products for the coming age of intelligent systems.
Our research is organized into three major areas --
Perception, Cognition and Systems. We support a mixture of both
long-term basic research and advanced development; currently there are
ongoing projects in:
Computer-aided Design Natural Language Interfaces
Consultation Systems Visual Inspection and Automation
Speech Recognition Knowledge-Based Simulation and Test Generation
Knowledge Representation Signal & Image Understanding
Computer Graphics Semantic Information Retrieval
Advanced VLSI-based Computer Architectures
Our laboratory has a generous amount of varied computing
equipment including a DECSystem 2060, Vax 11/780s, Symbolics 3600s,
Xerox D-machines and SUN workstations; a wide variety of graphics
devices including an Evans and Sutherland Multi-Picture system, and an
Ikonas frame buffer/digitizer. Other more specialized equipment
includes a Digital Sound 16-bit A/D D/A converter and an FPS-100 Array
processor. We are continually enhancing our computing facilities and
have a full-time support and operations staff. To make the
state-of-the-art computing environment required by AI research we do
advanced development and support in the following areas:
Operating Systems Programming Environments and Languages
Computer Networks Signal, Image processing and I/O
Distributed Processing Electronic Messaging
Document Production
We need individuals with software design skills plus
competence across the core disciplines of CS, EE and AI. Recent
graduates are encouraged to apply. Please contact the laboratory
director, Dr. Jay M. Tenenbaum; by Arpanet (Tenenbaum@SRI-KL), by UUCP
(...decwrl!flairvax!jmt) or by mail (4001 Miranda Avenue, Palo Alto,
California, 94304).
