I need access to the AppleTalk protocols on Ethernet on a Sun network. I noticed an AF_APPLETALK address family in the sys/socket.h header, but on further invesigation discovered that Sun don't provide it with the standard release and aren't ever likely to, probably because it already exists inside Tops. On asking a Tops person how to get at the protocols, I was told that the implementation is never likely to become public, ie you are stuck with the software Tops provides and can't ever write your own. What I would like to know is (a) has anyone else implemented the protocols who is prepared to be a little more open about things, or (b) has anyone else fallen into this problem, and if so, was it easy to solve; as far as I can see, if the AF_APPLETALK family is supported under Tops, it should be possible to invoke socket() &c., provided you know the address and data formats (big `provided'). Incidentally, I don't see that this should upset anyone, since I have to buy Tops *anyway* in order to access the modified kernel for the AppleTalk protocol family. Any help much appreciated. -- Harry Fearnhamm, ,---.'\ EMAIL: loki@moncam.uucp Monotype ADG, (, /@ )/ ...!ukc!acorn!moncam!loki Science Park, /( _/ ') VOICE: +44 (0)223 420018 Cambridge, \,`---' FAX: +44 (0)223 420911 CB4 4FQ, DISCLAIMER: Nothing is True.
