I have been using CAP on a Sun386i in conjunction with a GatorBox for about a year now and have had no problems. The 386i was an Aufs server and worked fairly well. I just picked up ru-cap2 and enet from Rutgers and installed them on our Sparc station. With enet on the Sparc I thought I ought to see better performance than on the 386i and the Gatorbox. And lo and behold, the thruput was about 3 times better. So what's the problem? The problem is that the Aufs doesn't seem to get registered. Or not quite. I am also using snitch and the same problem happens. Let me describe the symptoms. All our macs are directly on the backbone as are our Suns. When I go into the chooser on the macs and choose our backbone and Appleshare, the Sparc Aufs shows up, but sometimes up to about a minute may go by before it does. Using the DA ATVIEW, the snitch and aufs sometimes shows up and sometimes doesn't. Using Inter-poll they never show up. So what's the story? Who maintains the name registeration info anyway? I let Inter-poll run for 2 min. 30 sec. and I still didn't see anything registered.
