[comp.protocols.appletalk] Problem with CAP, Gatorboxes, and subnetting

mayer@WRC.XEROX.COM (Jim Mayer) (12/15/90)

We are having problems using CAP 5.0 to talk to a LaserWriter through a
GatorBox. The unix host is a Sun4 running SunOS 4.0.3. Our local IP
network uses a 10 bit subnet mask, so addresses of the form:

	13.0.32.xxx 13.0.33.xxx 13.0.34.xxx 13.0.35.xxx

are all valid. The address of the Gatorbox is 13.0.32.<something>.
When the Unix host has an address of the form 13.0.32.<another-thing>,
then everything works fine. On the other hand, hosts whose addresses
are of the form 13.0.33.<whatever> cannot communicate with appletalk
hosts.

The Gatorbox does know about subnetting, and is configured with the
correct subnet mask.

The symptoms are:

% getzones
abInit: [ddp: 0.33, 19], [NBP (atis) Server: 0.32, 78] starting
error -1096 getting zone list

Any thoughts?
