  Following is the job description for one of the job openings in
Department 75 at Mitre.  This is an excellent opportunity for someone
just out of college to get the feeling of running a Unix system.  

  Position: User Support Person

  Qualifications: BS degree in CS or related field.
                  1-2 years experience with Unix
                  Knowledge of C or 2 other programming languages
                  Must enjoy working with users (and their problems)

  Duties:

    1.  Provide assistance to user community - we have 1 Vax 11/750 with
        approx. 100 users, 1 Vax 11/780 with approx. 200 users.  Users are
        all technical people and their questions get tough.

        Answer guru mail, phone questions, in-person questions.

    2.  Provide training

        Determine training needs, new user training, give periodic seminars

    3.  Resource allocation to users

        Provide terminals, computer connections, etc.  Monitor cpu usage,
        disk usage, terminal usage.

    4.  Administrative work

        Add/Remove users from the system, distribute documentation, restore
        lost files, etc.

    5.  Purchasing
 
        Working with system programmers to buy equipment, handle all paper
        work involved, talk to vendors and suppliers.

    6.  Communicate the needs of the user community to the system programmers.

    7.  Some programming and installing of new software.
