I have a rather strange question: I am looking for a way for two macs on seperage networks (routed by seperate cisco routers) to share printers and file services from within CAP. I have heard of this being done with Kinetics boxes and such (I think, but it was a while ago), but never with just unix boxes. Our setup is this: we have a secure net routed by one cisco, and a main net routed by another. There are some printers hanging off the main net that people on the secure net want access to. We could just let AppleTalk stuff go through, but we would rather control it to a greater degree. The printers aren't a big deal, because we can just run CAP on both sides and then push lpr across the routers, but I also need to use macdump to backup machines on the secure side to a unix-disk on the main side. I know all of this probably doesn't make much sense, but we really do need help, and I would appreciate anyone who has any advice, or anyone who thinks they might be able to help, but doesn't quite understand the question to reply to me. Somewhere there must be a unix-based addition to CAP that allows macs to print and get files across the internet with tcp/ip. Once again, help would be appreciated, Vaughan -- VaughAn Turner Internet: vturner@nmsu.edu Networking/Workstation Support Box 30001, Dept. 3AT Computer Center, Networking/WSC Las Cruces, New Mexico New Mexico State University 88003-0001 Bitnet: vturner@nmsu.bitnet UUCP: ucbvax!nmsu.edu!vturner Work: (505) 646-4244 FAX: (505) 646-5278 Home: (505) 522-3653 Home Address: 1115 Larry Drive Las Cruces, New Mexico 88001-5457 "...the first rule of engineering [is] to work with Earth's natural forces, never against them."
