[comp.protocols.appletalk] Printing via Ethernet

wedeck@iravcl.ira.uka.de (Joerg Wedeck) (02/02/91)

Hello,

we have a problem with some macs printing via the ethernet.
we have several Mac si supplied with EtherTalk NB Cards. Also
we have several Sparcstation 2 (Sun OS 4.1.1) which are also
connected to the same ethernet. The printers (HP Laserjet III) are
connected to the serial port of our sparcserver.

How can we access the printer, without installing an appletalk card
in the printer, as we dont want to run LocalTalk ?

We have tried to use rut-cap and atalkd, and got enet to
to configure the kernel (which has already been succesfully done),
but we had no success. The macs do not recognize the suns and the other
way round. when running etherfind we see, that the macs and the sun
are sending, but they do not understand each other.

Is this software constellation the appropriate solution for this problem ?
If not, what else should we use?
Can anyone give us a hint how we have to configure the software ?

Thanks

	Joerg
