[comp.protocols.appletalk] What exactly is uab?

mazu@terre (Marc Mazuhelli) (02/09/91)

I am about to install CAP on our Sun server. I have downloaded cap2,
enet and uab+ and read the REAME files, but I'm still not shure if I
need uab. We have a GatorBox and a few macs with Ethernet cards, but
most our Macs are still on LocalTalk.

If I understand well, enet lets the Sun talk EtherTalk phase 1
directly, so it could be useful for the Macs that have Ethernet cards.
But what exactly does uab do and do I need it?

Another question: the README file for enet states that it "should
work" with SunOS 4.1; does anyone know if does indeed work with 4.1
or 4.1.1?

These seem like simple questions that might meed complicates
answers... I hope someone can help me!! Thank you very much!!

Uab is an alternate mechanism for getting CAP to use Ethertalk Phase
1. It is not necessary if you rebuild your kernel to support the enet
driver.

People have confirmed that the distribution works with SunOS 4.1 and
4.1.1.
