[comp.protocols.appletalk] IPTalk Problem after Phase 2 conversion

dan@gacvx2.gac.edu (02/15/91)

Greetings,

I have just upgraded all the AppleTalk gateways on my campus to Phase 2
Ethertalk. I have five FastPaths and a Gatorbox. I am running ru-cap2 and
AUFS on a NeXT and everything seemed to work under Phase 1. I am using K-star
8.01 on the Fastpaths and 1.5X0 (build 20) on the Gatorbox. The GatorBox is
also acting as an IPtalk gateway to CAP on the next.

Computers on Ethertalk and the Localtalk segment attached to the GatorBox can
see the AUFS fileservers. Computers on the Localtalk segments attacted to the
Fastpaths cannot see the AUFS filservers in chooser. CAP can see all the zone
names using "getzones" and can print to laserwriters (using pap) in all the
zones. However attempts to use "Chooser" to see the fileserver result in only
the a fileserver on the ethertalk being shown and the GatorBox puts the message
"916576 L3 0000 IP: no route to destination 138.236.0.0" in its log file.

Net number	Gateway Zone Name	IP address

	14099 FastPath 4 GAC-Fine Arts
	14081 FastPath 4 GAC-Library
	14098 FastPath 4 GAC-SSC
	14120 FastPath 4 GAC-Old Main
	14095 GatorBox (Ltalk) GAC-Academic Computing

	14083-14094	EtherTalk GAC-Vickner/Confer Offices
					  GAC-Confer MacLab
(Seeded by the GatorBox) GAC-Confer Mac Classroom
					  GAC-Academic Computing
					  GACnet

	14082 GatorBox (IPtalk) GACnet	138.236.0.0

The GatorBoxes IP address is 138.236.0.10, and the CAP machine is 138.236.0.1.

Turns out that upgrading the GatorBox to GatorShare 1.6 fixes the problem I was
having seeing the CAP-AUFS servers from LocalTalk segments attached to the
FathPath boxes. Cayman Tech Support was a big help. Thanks.
