Ours is a burgeoning software support group that supports the majority of 25 UNIX machines at Tektronix, inc. Our group's charter is to provide an homogenous 4.1BSD/4.2BSD UNIX programming environment across all the machines that we support within Tek. Given identical programming conditions and climate, currently productive programmers could move, communicate and code among all machines with little or no conversion or learning time. New people would find that the information domain gained from a class taught on one computer could always be applied on their 'home' machine. Each person in our group is responsible for (eventually) knowing or learning all parts of UNIX so that there is no service we cannot provide to our 'customers' within Tek. This includes writing new user or system utilities, making improvements to the kernel and commands, writing device drivers, and tracking and fixing bugs throughout UNIX. We have four openings which will provide the services mentioned above, at one level or another. The experience required for the positions ranges upward from good familiarity with UNIX, one to two years solid programming experience in C and shell, and a willingness to learn on your own. An undergraduate CS degree or equivalent experience are required. Tektronix is an equal opportunity employer located in a quiet suburb of Portland, Oregon, in the beautiful northwest. We have skiing, sailing, hiking, good restaurants, jazz, classical, the beautiful Columbia gorge, and the Pacific ocean. Some people say it rains too much, but I moved here from Denver in 1982 and have no thoughts of moving to a dryer climate. Tek also has some great benefits, including discount on Tektronix products, profit sharing, and, in our group, the use of a terminal at home.
