-- Greetings Appletalkers, Anyone have a Mac using appletalk on a separate subnnet, ie. an ethernet with no gatorboxes on it? ----------------------------------------------------------------- pacheco@osf.org | 617-621-8898 | * Varlock rules! | | - - | | _\~/ _ <-- Varlock | | | | | | |/ | \ "Push the button Max" "I got it proffesor" <<<<BOOM>>>> "MAAAAAAAX" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The question was: Is there a way to hook a PC up to Appletalk/Ethernet networks with a FastPath? Is it ka9q? Answer: I (just yesterday) finally got my setup, exactly what you are talking about, running. I have a PC with a LocalTalk/PC card hooked up to a LocalTalk Network, which is routed through Star Controllers and a FastPath to the Internet. I am using NCSA telnet 2.3 beta, which you can find at zaphod.ncsa.uiuc.edu. The advantage of this over ka9q (I hear -- I haven't used ka9q) is that NCSA has the drivers built in, whereas ka9q must have a couple other drivers loaded to get the job done. But NCSA works just fine: both server and client ftp, finger, rexec, ftp password protection, etc. The only thing that bothers me is that the start-up sequence for the LT interface screws up my screen. Not a big problem, as I have the source, but for now, the finger and rexec programs aren't too useful. oh well. -Dave David Giller ----- (rafetmad@oxy.edu) or (dgiller@oxy.edu) ------------ Box 134 "Some of us wake up -- others roll over."
