[comp.protocols.appletalk] Phase 2 appletalk over the localtalk interface

brett@aardvark.ucs.uoknor.edu (AUS:MORROW,BRETT) (03/19/91)

Does anyone know of any init or program that will allow a mac to do
appletalk phase 2 over the built in local talk connector. I hear that
system 7 will do this and I would like to know if there is a way to get
system 6 to do it for testing with our campus net.

Any info appretiated.

If asking for the ability to have extended addressing and multiple zones for a physical cable on LocalTalk, sorry, this is not going to happen. The same is true with System 7.0, a single zone name and a single network number per physical cable....

This is to clarify what I am asking for.

From the book "The Advantages of Appletalk Phase 2" by Apple Computers
Inc. Part No M0785LL/A.

From a section on localtalk drivers:
"Phase 2 LocalTalk drivers will be provided with Macintosh system software
upgrades."

also

"However, certain new applicatons will require even Macintosh computers on
LocalTalk to be upgraded to Phase 2 in the near future. The LocalTalk upgrade
software will be available as a standard part of Macintosh system software
verison 7.0."

These are just two examples from the book. It mentions it in a few other
places. What I am looking for is something that will give these
functions today.

 Thank You

   Brett
