Many thanks to David Hornsby and Antonio Querubin for their speedy replies to my previous message. I think I have followed their instructions and set things up properly for IPtalk and I still have problems with atlook. (It returns absolutely nothing.) Do I have to do anything after making programs and creating atalk.local before I run atlook? Can anyone give me any debugging hints or things to try? I'd really like to get IPtalk working. Here's (hopefully) all of the info: Host IP: 129.83.9.117 FP IP: 129.83.9.235 and my atalk.local: 0.13 117 K-Building 0.13 235 129.83.9.235 and all the info about the fastpast from the shiva fp manager software: Gateway: Serial Number :0 Prom Version: 4.1 Curr Downloaded file: K-STAR Version 8.1.1 Configuration: K-STAR IP ATalk Phase 1 Switches: Auto Config NO Remote Boot NO LocalTalk Interface: AT Zone Name: G033 2K100 Wing AT Net Number: 11 AT Node Number: 220 Ethertalk Phase 2: <not in use> Ethertalk Phase 1: AT Zone Name: K-Building AT Net Number: 13 AT Node Number: 193 IP Information: IP Address of FastPath: 129.83.9.235 IP Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 IP BroadCast Address: 255.255.255.255 IP Address of Def Router: 129.83.9.254 ! our cisco, which routes phase 1 Atalkatab: Dynamic 0 Static 32 IPTalk Interface: IP Address of Admin Host: 0.0.0.0 AT Zone Name: * AT Network Number: 13 AT Node Number: 235 Servers: IP Address of Name Server: 129.83.20.100 IP Address of File Server: 0.0.0.0 Local Parameters: Parameter #1: 129.83.1.96 Parameter #2: 0.0.0.0 Parameter #3: 0.0.0.0 Parameter #4: 0.0.0.0 Option Flags: 9, 10, 17, 18 hilighted Option Paraters: All 00's My concern is the "*" in the IPtalk zone name. The fp manager says that a "*" is acceptable in the Ethertalk zone name. It also says that the IPtalk zone name can be left blank (not a "*") and it will get it from the Ethertalk zone name. Our administrator assures me that the "*" in the IPtalk zone is just fine in and it is something that I'm doing wrong. any clues? --ted |Ted Ede -- ted@mbunix.mitre.org -- The MITRE Corporation -- Burlington Road| | linus!mbunix!ted -- Bedford MA, 01730 -- Mail Stop K224 -- (617) 271-7867 | | - this line intentionally left blank - | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
