[comp.protocols.appletalk] Gatorbox monitoring

gomez@ENUXHA.EAS.ASU.EDU (Jose L. Gomez-Rubio) (03/31/91)

I'm working for an organization that is looking for monitoring software for
about 40 Gatorboxes.

Currently, they use Interpoll and telnet to the Gatorbox to get its
statistics.

This is unsatisfactory. They would like something along the lines of a
monitoring station that can query the Gatorbox to see if it is still on-line
and collect statistics.

They want to become proactive in their approach. Common situations are:
Gatorboxes not working at all, Gatorboxes allowing appletalk traffic but
no telnet sessions, etc, etc. They want to collect stats so they can determine
if there is a pattern (ie, unusual high number of bad blocks).

Thanks for the info!

Gatorboxes support SNMP Simple Network Monitoring Protocol over TCP/IP

The mib is avaiable across the internet.

Management software is more vexing. SNMP software exists for unix
workstations, Macs, PC's under windows.
We even have primative SNMP software under VM/CMS
