I'm new to systems adminstration and even newer to Appletalk. Here's the
situation, we have a Sun 3/160 server running SunOS 3.5, an Appletalk
network (using TOPS for their filesharing) connected to the ethernet via a
Kinetics/Shiva 4 gateway and want to be able to share 2 laser printers (one
of which is connected to the sun network). I have gotten a copy of cap60
and installed it per the documentation with little difficulty until it
came to configuring atalk.local.
Questions about atalk.local:
1. Where does the host/network # come from? I got it from one of the
engineers here.
2. I know the bridge node # comes from the last bye of the IP address
but where does the node # for the host come from?
3. The IP address is to be the address for the gateway, correct?
ATALK.LOCAL
# host's AppleTalk network number, node number, zone name
2.38 101 "Default Zone"
# bridge's AppleTalk network number, node number, and IP address
2.38 101 192.42.137.101
When I run atlook, it gives me nothing:
fibercom|rrg|/fibercom/rrg> atlook
abInit: [ddp: 2.38, 101] starting
Looking for =:=@* ...
I have been seeing info about atalkad and atalkatab and they are not
on our sun nor are they in the cap documentation. I've heard about kip
from the net. Is it a package that we must have to run properly? Will
it shed any light on the atalkad and atalkatab files?
Bottom line...how do I get this running?
I apologize if this has been discussed or if these are silly questions but
like I said this is all new to me.
-thanks
