[comp.protocols.appletalk] lwsrv broke for some reason

barnett@grymoire.crd.ge.com (Bruce Barnett) (04/24/91)

We have been a happy user of CAP 5.0 for a while, but a couple of days
ago we noticed the Unix printers were not longer visible to the
Macintoshes. We run lwsrv on several machines, but when we restart
them, we get a SLIinit error.

We have replaced the Kinetics box with a different one - just in case
it was bad. Still doesn't work.

I have CAP6.0 patch 5 now, and am trying to figure out what is broken.
I run atis, followed by atistest. atistest doesn't find anything.
(nbp register error because: couldn't register name - is atis running?)

atislook doesn't find anything either.

Any suggestions on how to debug this?

We have a large network (1000 nodes on ethernet, 700 Macs on ~30
Appletalk zones.)

Thanks for any advice.

The thing that has bitten me here is that the /etc/services file
was replaced, leaving out the AppleTalk UDP ports. Check to make
sure that is all set up right. Also, check the atis log to see
if it is starting up properly.
