[comp.protocols.appletalk] MacTCP/System 7.0

bauman@shell.com (05/01/91)

Sorry if this has already been discussed to death.

With the impending arrival of system 7.0, what version of MacTCP
should we use (if any work at all)?

We currently have MacTCP 1.0.1 running with system 6.0.5.

Thanks in advance. E-mail replies appreciated.

MacTCP 1.0.1 and MacTCP 1.0.2 were not written to support System 7.
MacTCP 1.0.1 and MacTCP 1.0.2 look for the DNR routines in the blessed
folder (usually called "System Folder"). Most people put MacTCP in the
"Control Panels" folder and MacTCP cannot find the DNR routines.

The workaround to this is fairly simple. Put MacTCP in the System Folder
and put an alias of MacTCP in the "Control Panels" folder. Note:
MacTCP 1.0.1 and MacTCP 1.0.2 do not work properly under System 7 with
virtual memory turned on.

The next major release of MacTCP will address these issues. We do not
have a time-frame on when this will happen.

I'm using 1.0.2 tho I hear 1.0.1 will work, the 1.0 version dosen't work
under 7. Using 1.0.2 I need to put a copy both in the Control Panel
folder and the System folder. Apparently this will be fixed in the 1.1
release.
