[A friend asked me to post this notice to the net. Please respond to him directly. (He's from Purdue, so talk slowly if you call.)] RESEARCH POSITION AVAILABLE Servio Logic Corporation invites applications fo a research position starting, preferably, in January 1984. The position is available for six months to one year (possibly longer). [That is, they will consider a faculty member on leave or sabbatical, or someone looking for a permanent position.] Applicants should have a strong theoretical background in computer science, especially propositional logic or database theory. Servio is producing an advanced database system that supports a set- based, temporal data model, with an object-oriented programming interface. The position includes work on a translation algorithm from predicate calculus statements to algebraic operations on sets, with emphasis on correctness and on optimization. The applicant would be working with research and development engineers having experience in database hardware, systems and languages. The working environment at Servio is pleasant. We have two VAX 750's, a Xerox Dolphin running Smalltalk, a laser printer, and a complete hardware laboratory. The company occupies the top two floors of the Georgia Pacific Building in downtown Portland. The Pacific beaches and some 200 state parks lie 65 miles west. Mt. Hood, which affords year-round skiing and excellent hiking, lies 60 miles east of Portland. Mt. St. Helens, 50 miles north, provides occasional excitement not readily available in other parts of the country. The weather is temperate, with both mild summers and winters. Because we are a small company, the work of each individual is important. Our work groups are small and the atmosphere is informal. Applicants should telephone or send resumes to: Dr. David Schrader Servio Logic Corporation 2700 Georgia Pacific Building Portland, OR 97204 (503) 227-3777 x260 Servio Logic Corporation: a Sanpao Company
