[comp.protocols.appletalk] Problems with CTB/Apple Modem Tool and NetSerial

ulfis@nada.kth.se (Anders Ulfheden) (05/27/91)

I have developed a HyperCard stack that uses Communications ToolBox and
Apple Modem Tool. It works just fine when connected to a local modem...

But, when I use NetSerial to communicate over a network the Apple Modem Tool
crashes with 'zero divide' when I call CTBOpen().
There is no problem with my CTB-code; I get exactly the same behaviour with
MacTerminal 3.0 and the Modem Tool.

I dont want to support a Hayes-compatible modem myself by using the Serial Tool
and a bunch of Hayes-commands.

Is there a way around this? A new tool from Apple perhaps? Any 3rd party tool
that can replace the buggy Apple Modem Tool?

Any hints appreciated.

1) which version of the Apple Modem Tool are you running?
2) there is a problem with the NetSerial replacement serial driver code
3) this is a problem we are aware of and have fixed
4) please be a bit more judicious in labelling software "buggy"

What's the current version? I've had a modem manufacturer talk about
"1.3" or "1.0.3" which would work with their modem; we have only 1.0.1.
APDA doesn't list and update, and our Apple SE tells us to call APDA.

I'm sorry, but I have to agree with Anders. The version of the AMT we
currently have *is* rather buggy. The particular bug he complains of may
not be in the AMT, but there are others.

My version of Apple Modem Tool is 1.0.1. Shiva NetSerial 3.6b2.

The stack works with the Serial Tool so I believe the "bug" resides in the
Apple Modem Tool... Try MacTerminal 3.0 also.

Do you think you can mail me a new, fixed version of AMT? You can reach me on
AppleLink also: SW0039.
