Has anyone got AppleShare PC (version 2.01 anyway) to work with Windows 3.0 enhanced mode? All I get is a few working minutes then it freezes the PC. I know that Apple released version 2.2 a little while ago, did that fix the problem? -- * Gavin Longmuir - General Dog's Body (The Thunderer) and Programmer * * Demography Programme, Research School of Social Sciences * Australian National University, Canberra, AUSTRALIA Voice: +61 6 249 0530 FAX: +61 6 257 1893 InterNet: gkl300@coombs.anu.edu.au * UUCP: {uunet,ubc-vision,ukc,prlb2}!munnari!coombs.anu.edu.au!gkl300

Gavin, "Has anyone got AppleShare PC (version 2.01 anyway) to work with Windows 3.0 enhanced mode? All I get is a few working minutes then it freezes the PC. I know that Apple released version 2.2 a little while ago, did that fix the problem?" In January '91 Farallon and Apple announced a licensing agreement whereby Farallon would develop and market PC AppleTalk products based on Apple Technology. As a result of that agreement, Farallon's PhoneNET Talk* software has replaced AppleShare PC and the PhoneNET PC Card for LocalTalk hardware software bundle has replaced Apple's LocalTalk PC Card/AppleShare PC bundle. The current version of PhoneNET Talk is 2.02 and fixes some bugs, particularly printing from Windows 3.0, from the AppleShare PC 2.01 release. However, the DA application used in attaching and detaching network resources is not virtualized in PhoneNET Talk. As a consequence, you should not use the DA in the DOS compatibility box of Windows 3.0 in enchanced mode. While the DA should not be used from within Windows, Windows users will find PhoneNET Talk particularly useful. Network resources like printers and file servers can be attached while in DOS, or even as part of the Autoexec.bat start up of the PC and will be available to Windows and Windows applications when Windows is launched. For upgrade information please call Farallon Customer Service at 415-596-9000. Regards, Todd
