The zone list that I see on my EtherTalk connected Mac in the chooser (obtained by the ZIP function "GetZoneList") is a superset of the zone list that I see in the control panel (under the Network CDEV and Ethertalk icon (obtained by the ZIP function "GetLocalZones")). This presents a problem for users whose zone is not seen in the control panel; they cannot select their zone to make it their 'home' or individual default zone. They can still access AppleTalk services via the chooser (since *ALL* zones appear there), however for administrative purposes they would like to be associated with their own zone. QUESTIONS: 1.) Since we share a common ethernet backbone, I'm expecting both zone lists to be identical. Why isn't it? (I suspect an improperly configured AppleTalk router) 2.) Using Watch (*GREAT* program from Cayman), I`m able to determine which router is responding to each request. How come sometimes I see the *SAME* router responding differently to each of the requests? Is this my improperly configured router? 3.) Again, using Watch, How come I sometimes see *DIFFERENT* routers responding to each of the requests? Is it random that a different router just so happened to respond each time? I was under the impression that in AppleTalk Phase 2, your Mac keeps, in its own internal table, the address of the router it last 'heard' from. If so, shouldn't it always try to query that particular router? Any help would be *GREATLY* appreciated. Thanks in advance. --Tony Olejnik Network Engineer University of Pennsylvania Data Communications and Computing Services 3401 Walnut Street Suite 221A Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19104-6228 (215) 898-9408 tony@scotty.dccs.upenn.edu
