Inside AppleTalk (second edition) page 4-8 has a description of node address acquisition on extended networks. The node address used last time is used as a "hint". "the node instructs the data link to obtain its provisional node address by trying this hint first. If this hint is in use, the data link should then try all node IDs with the same network number as the hint." I don't see how the "hint" is checked. In the description of LLAP there is the "lapENQ" packet that is used to do the testing but how is it done with ELAP & TLAP? Another question, is there a FLAP (AppleTalk over FDDI)? Can anyone point to some documentation on how AppleTalk is run over an FDDI backbone? Thanks Scott Bradner sob@harvard.edu
