Earlier I reported that Dan Tappan's Macdump utility (which automatically backs up Macintosh files to UNIX) did not work on a Macintosh IISI running System 7.0. Many thanks to Bill Benson (benson@lbl.gov), it now works. I was using an older version of dumper (v3.0beta) which caused macdump to quit with oing full dump to inei-Macintosh HD.FULL Dump device at 23/50:40 macdump: error on request to mac: 50733 macdump: Failed to dump Macintosh HD. Response: However, the newer version of dumper (v3.2) does work with Macintosh IISI running System 7.0 with virtual memory and 32-bit addressing enabled. I dumped a 1.4 MB floppy and restored it succesfully with Restore running on System 7.0 Macintosh IIcx. It will complain about not bwing able to create the DeskTop file, as usual. I am rather dubious that it should work with 32-bit addressing. Should it? Can anyone convince me that it should? It seemed to restore the files OK, but how do I know that *everything* is OK?
