[comp.protocols.appletalk] CAP 6.0

tpitman@ucunix.san.uc.edu (Tom Pitman) (06/12/91)

Hello. I am running CAP 6.0 with Phase 2 support on two machines here
at UC. One is a Sparc 2, the other is a Sun 4/470. They are both
exhibiting similar problems. I start up aarpd, atis, and aufs, and file
service works just fine, but invariably after an hour or two, one of the
servers will cease to be accessible. [Remote macs get the following
message: "An appleshare system error occurred. (The server is not
responding.)"] This problem is not permanent however, the servers will
come and go. It seems that the CAP server gets out of sync with itself
(somehow...)

Running atlook before the problem yields this...

abInit: [ddp:   0.07, 134], [GW:   0.07, 84] starting
Looking for =:=@DAAP EtherTalk Phase 2 ...
  1 - DAAP-HeadCheese:AFPServer@DAAP EtherTalk Phase 2 [Net:  0.7 Node:134 Skt
:134]

When the problems start atlook returns this...

abInit: [ddp:   0.06, 134], [GW:   0.06, 84] starting
Looking for =:=@DAAP EtherTalk Phase 2 ...
  1 - DAAP-HeadCheese:AFPServer@DAAP EtherTalk Phase 2 [Net:  0.7 Node:134 Skt
:134]

Not being an Appletalk guru, does anyone have any idea what's going on
and/or how to fix it. Thanks in advance for any info you might be able
to send my way...
