[comp.protocols.appletalk] how can Excel 3.0 and 2.2 co-exist on server?

I'd like to make the new Excel 3.0 available on the AppleShare file server
in our maclab -- in addition to Excel 2.2a.

But I still want Excel 2.2 to be launched when users double-click
on their 2.2 spreadsheet data files.

The problem is that XCEL is the creator of both 2.2 and 3.0 data files.
(The types *are different*, though: XLS vs. XLS3.)

Excel 3.0 has no problem launching 2.2 files, but it saves those files in 3.0
format by default, which could really burn some users who take those modified
files home and find that their Excel 2.2 can't launch them.

Is there a way to get the finder to worry about file type as well as file
creator, when launching apps by double-clicking on the documents?

Many thanks,
