[comp.protocols.appletalk] UAB MAXOPENPORT = 10, any reason for this?

rocky@prism.poly.edu (Rocky Shiotsuki) (06/19/91)

I modified CAP 6.0 and UAB to run different host/node, it seems to me
working OK. Then I found out that I can't add many CAP server, but
if I remove one from list then new one show up on the list, looks like
it was waiting empty slot. I think this number of entry controlled by
MAXOPENPORT = 10 in port_intf.h file. I started second UAB on another
SUN workstation then everything show up by atlook.
  Is there any reson to seted MAXOPENPORT = 10 ?
  Does UAB support PHASE 2 protocol?
  (I see phase 2 code in UAB, but when I choose UAB, Configure does
   not ask phase 2 option.)

When I tested my modification of CAP and UAB, I will post this
news group.

Right now, our site, Polytechnic University, using CAP 6.0 as followed:

     -----------------     Local Talk
    |  MAC IIsi       | --------- MAC ---- MAC --- LaserWriter ...
    | (Liaison router)|
     -----------------
         +
         + Ether-Net (EtherTalk)
         +
         ++++++ MAC
         +
         ++++++ Sun 3 host with QMS PS-810 PostScript printer
         +
         ++++++ Sun 3 'pucatt' (CAP 6.0, UAB/ node 24)
         +
         ++++++ Sun 3 'puscs' (UAB only/ node 205)
         +
         ++++++ IBM RS-6000 'thumper' (CAP 6.0/ use UAB node 205 as gateway)
         +

This is output from atlook:
