[comp.protocols.appletalk] MacRestore Doesn't Work with System 7

Austin Shelton (06/28/91)

I am using the MacDump utilities Dumper and Restore with System 7. The good
news is that Dumper faithfully backs up my hard disk every night. The bad news
is I am unable to perform a restore using Restore. The message I consistently
get is "select a server with Chooser". However many times I do this it simply
refuses to recognize the selection.

I am using version 2.3 of Dumper and version 2.0 Beta of Restore. I can't seem
to locate a newer version of the Restore program anywhere. My Macdump programs
on Unix have been compiled using CAP 6.0, patch level 25, with ET2 support.
The Mac is also talking ET2 directly on the ethernet.

Any suggestions? Dan Tappan, are you out there? Any chance that the source
for Dumper and Restore will find its way into the public domain?

Thanks in advance.

No problem. Make sure that Dumper exists in the System Folder proper, not
in the Extensions Folder, and put an alias to it into the Extensions Folder.
That way both Chooser and Restore can find it.
