FACULTY POSITION IN COMPUTER MUSIC, ACOUSTICS AND AUDIO ENGINEERING The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has created a new inter- disciplinary laboratory to address the invention and creative use of new media. As part of this Media Laboratory's teaching responsi- bilities, a new faculty position has been opened in the field of Computer Music, Acoustics and Audio Engineering. Candidates qualified for this position are invited to submit resumes and any information by February 15, 1984 to: Professor Nicholas Negroponte Director, Media Laboratory Room NE43-205 Massachusetts Institute of Technology 545 Technology Square Cambridge, Massachusetts 02139 Duties include 50% research and 50% teaching, with three commitments: 1. an introductory subject in the field 2. a graduate seminar in the candidate's special area 3. thesis supervision Faculty are expected to build a personal research program, which may include the following: human interaction with computers, audio signal processing, real-time performance systems, perception and learning. Applicants must possess a PhD or equivalent, and must have demonstrated ability and interest in research. Teaching experience at the University level is desirable. The position requires professional experience in: digital audio, real-time signal processing, spatial sound processing, performance technology. The position can be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, salary competitive and to be negotiated. The opening is for the academic year starting September 1984. An earlier start is possible.
